Module Reflection 3

                 There are many films, TV shows, and videos that people would love to watch and fully understand. However, language barriers often prevent them from doing so. To solve this problem, dubbing is often used. Dubbing is a type of voiceover that involves creating a new voice track in another language, where the meaning matches the original dialogue. 

                During this course, we also had the opportunity to experience dubbing. In my opinion, this kind of project is very effective for language development. One of the main skills I improved was fluency. In the video I chose, the actors spoke very quickly, so I had to match their pace and deliver my lines with the same speed. This required a lot of practice and concentration. I also improved my pronunciation. Since the original actresses were speaking in their native Russian, their speech was very natural. I had to listen to the lines many times to figure out how to reproduce the emotion and tone in English, so that it sounded just as authentic. 

                 Collaboration played a very important role in this project. Although I worked on this project individually, I collaborated with some of my friends who are undergraduate students. They helped me by recording the voices of some characters, and I guided them in how to pronounce and express each line correctly. Every person has a different voice, so I also had to adjust the tone, speed, and style to match both the original actresses and the voices of my helpers. It was difficult, but I managed it. 

I saw a clear improvement in my speaking performance from Phase 1 to the final version. At the beginning, I struggled with both speed and articulation. But by the end, I was able to speak clearly, confidently, and naturally. I also improved my articulation, which helped me sound more professional and easier to understand. 

                 The most challenging phase was trying to match the emotional tone and expressiveness of the original actresses. The film I chose is a Soviet movie, made during the Soviet era, and the acting style at that time was very expressive and emotional. The actors spoke with deep emotion to show the true feelings of their characters — happiness, sadness, conflict. Trying to recreate that in English was the hardest part. 

                 A key tool in this project was ChatGPT. It helped me translate subtitles so that the meaning and feeling behind the original lines were preserved. When I had to change my video just one week before the deadline, ChatGPT helped me rewrite all the subtitles quickly. It also helped me, and my team rehearse lines with the correct tone and meaning. It truly supported my learning process. 

                 I would definitely consider using dubbing in my own future teaching. It develops not only speaking skills but also technical skills. I learned how to use CapCut, how to insert and clean audio, how to work with subtitles — all of which are useful in the digital world. In today’s tech-driven environment, these skills are essential both in education and in the workplace. Someone who combines strong language skills with technical knowledge will be more competitive and successful.
